So 38 plus 23 would be $61 for mail order.

Locally is $55 with 7.5 percent sales tax would make it a little less than $60 so the mail order isn't a better deal is it or am I doing the math wrong.

I struggle with math.....

I struggle iwth English; I did not explain well.

The link is to a 5 gallon bucket for $171 which ships here for $23 and no tax and a total of $194 for 5 gallons. So 5 people going in $38.50 apiece would cover it - full walk away price for a gallon each. Buying it locally, the walk away price is over $60 with tax for a gallon.

One of the things that is motivating me is that I am working my way around the kitchen, "refurbishing" the cabinets. I am using (supposedly odorless) paint thinner with a rag and/or scotch brite pad and/or plastic scraper, depending on the condition of the particular piece I am on. Our cabinets are golden oak, about 15 years old and I think the original finish is poly, but I am not positive. Anyway, once I get it clean I give it a coat of tung thinned to about half and give it a day to "soak/cure/whatever". Several spots won't take any and I give those pieces (the whole door or frame or whatever) a couple of coats of thinned SealCoat. Then I come back through with the thinned tung a few more times and by the 3rd coat it is a nice consistent satin gloss. This is far less trouble, work or expense than "real" refinishing but it is looking pretty nice. I am able to do it gradually with the cabinets still in use (I do get the occasional complaint about someone getting slimed :) ).

Hmmmmm.....How long does Tung Oil keep on the shelf?
I have a project right now that would look good in Tung Oil....but it would take me a while to use a gallon.

Actually..on second thought, I will be using quite a bit on this project with multiple coats.
In for a gallon.

I see you already talked yourself into it, but for the benefit of others, the shelf life is described as "long" and "several years if properly..." and the lowest number I saw on a product in a quick search was 3 years, but I think that is a really conservative CYA number.

Since we have 4 of 5 accounted for, I think I will go ahead and order tonight and see what I have in the way of jugs. It is pretty tame stuff, which is one reason I like it, so nearly any container is okay.

Andy, I should have a few 1 gal jugs with snap closed lids from white Vinegar. These are pretty sturdy. Let me know if you need a few. Thanks for putting this together.

Yes, I could use up to 4. I think I have a couple of jugs that would work, but those are perfect. I am keeping the bucket; a little minor ulterior motive. :) I will pour off a little of mine to keep pure, but most of it I will dilute in the bucket. Then I will find a plastic colander that fits inside and figure out a way to suspend it above the level of the liquid. I think you see where this is headed - a little dip and drip setup for carvings and bowls.

I will swing by to visit your new neighbor Trent (just down Jones Franklin from you) probably tomorrow afternoon.

Hi Guys, just a thought here but windshield washing fluid jugs and anti freeze jugs work great for what you are using them for just rinse them out good and let dry. If I were down your way I would take three quarts and two pints myself. Steve

I was going to place the order last night and found they have some issue with credit cards right now, so I have to do it the old fashioned way and mail them a check. They are in GA, so it shouldn't be much of a delay. I would just order somewhere else, but their price is better than any other I could find. Anyway, there is still that last gallon available. I guess I could split it into two half gallons at $20 apiece.
