I finally got back to finishing my assembly table by wrapping it with red oak. It is 4 x 8 and has 2 3/4 sheets of MDF and topped with hard board. The legs and rails were made by glueing together 3.5" strips of 3/4 ply. It is really easy to make a mortise and tennon joint this way until I can get a dedicated mortiser.
The amazing thing is it is only 1/8 out of level on one end and that may be because I have it sitting over an expansion joint in the floor. It looks like the rest of the top is dead flat.
