I finally got my grubby little hands on the two block planes that I have been looking for.

On the left is a Stanley 60 1/2 which had never been used. I did flatten the blade back and hone the bevel but that is all the work that has been done on it.

On the right is a Stanley 65 knuckle black which has been lightly used, very lightly though. Again, I flattened and honed the blade and of course I waxed both of them.

Got the 60 1/2 off ebay and was steered to the other one by "Timberwolf" on WNet. Got it from an older gentleman in Fla.

This pretty much completes my user collection, let me emphasize "user", because I don't collect anything but sawdust.

Course if I run across any good finds at the flea markets, I will certainly latch on to them and do some rehab and try to sell them to supplement my hip pocket. LOL

Anyway, just wanted to show them off.

Nice planes and nice pixs!

No pixs of the bottoms though. Does the tab on the brass knob on front enable adjustment of throat?

So... I am curious Mike. How does one decide what a user collection should consist of?:?:

The latest additions sure do look like they are brand new!!! :-D How long did you have to work at them to get them lookin' this good?

Thanks for the great pictures!

Yes both of those have adjustable throats. Very nice looking tools, there!

Mike, sweet score there on both of those planes.:icon_thum I am also glad to hear you have finally been able to complete your user collection. I know you will have plenty of work for them to be used on.

Wayne,
As I am a newbie when it comes to the Neanderthal realm of woodworking, I might not be the best one to ask " What constitutes a user collection", I just kinda winged it. I thought I should have at a minimum the following:

1. low angle block plane for end grain planing ( 60 1/2, 65)
2. regular angle block plane for general ( 9 1/2)
3. a series of standard planes for smoothing and jointing wood ( 3, 4, 5, 7)

Admittedly, I am by no means an expert. I have read a lot and have asked some of the more knowledgeable members what to get and what they have done to clean / fettle their planes. Since I build / repair furniture for a living, I use all types of tools, both power tools and hand tools. Actually, I have surprised myself as to how much I actually use the planes I have acquired. I'm sure I won't use some of them a lot and others will get a lot of use. I guess it's one of those things, " if I need it, I got it".

Honestly, on the last two I posted pics of, I spent a total of about 5 minutes cleaning them up. As I said in my post, the 60 1/2 had not been used and the 65 had seen very little use. I got lucky and found some that didn't require a rehab.

Nice planes. I use my 65 quite a bit. If I ever had to save my tools from a fire it would be in my first armload. Congratulations.
