For Christmas, my wife got me into a class with Roy Underhill. It was his dovetail, and tenon joint class, where he teaches dovetails, half blind dovetails, and an intersecting mortise and tenon joint. The wood working was a lot of fun and informational. Having hands on access to just ask questions and talk to Roy was priceless.
In addition to what I learned about joinery yesterday, I learned what to watch for when sharpening chisels, and a great visual on when they are sharp. But again the best part was learing from a true craftsman.
If you get a chance, take at least a one day class. I am thinking of signing up for a multi-day class now. If a class if not available, get on the waiting list. It is well worth it.
