I am building a wall mounted station for my miter saw using 1/2" MDF. I am wondering how should I protect the edges of the station from wear and tear, and do you all advocate sealing MDF against moisture or humidity?

Anyone know other possible suppliers in the Raleigh area? Lowes and Home depot dont carry it.
I had one heck of a time on the phone trying to explain what I needed at Lowes, the guy kept saying we only carry it in 4x8 :BangHead:
I want to experiment with veneered cabinet doors, 1/2" is too...
I picked up a bunch of thick MDF scraps a few weeks ago - mostly 1 3/8" thick in a wide variety of small-to-medium pieces. This stuff is great to add weight and strength to jigs - like the base of a traditional TS tenon jig or the sides of a fence-straddling tenon jig. Or a router table fence...
Haplessely cruising the aisles of HD looking for something else, I noticed they had 3/4" MDF for $32 a sheet. Good grief !
I cannot fathom paying that much for someone else's sawdust and glue. Seems out of whack since e.g. plugged and sanded CD-grade 3/4" is running ~$27 a sheet.

I went to the big box store the other day (about the only game in my town) and picked up a sheet of MDF for a project comming up. 29 BUCKs a sheet!!! Has it ever gone up in the past year. So much for the inflation index of mdf..
When I cut it on the saw I noticed it just didn't dust up like mdf...
We built 2 large (10 feet x 12 feet) projection screens for our church. We made the screens from mdf. Biscuited and glued the abutting edges. Primed and painted. It has separated just enough where you can see lines on the screens. I need to fill these in, sand and put on another coat (or 2)...
I have some holes in mdf I want to cover up and then paint. Is Bondo a good idea for that? I've read that wood fillers could shrink and cause problems. Never used bodo before so thought I'd double check and see if there are any other suggestions.
Hey Guys,
I'm building my new kitchen and would like to use 3/8" MDF for my door and drawer panels. I suppose I could use 1/2" but I'm afraid I'll end up with some heavy doors. I also assume 3/8" would be cheaper! Any body sell this around Greensboro? I'd be willing to drive a little if the...
A Neti pot, that is. After making the trim pieces for 5 elliptical arches like below (20 pieces total), I had to visit the sink with the Neti pot to get the dust outa my nose. In spite of using a shop vac with the router, that stuff is nasty dusty.
I plan to do a How To post on the entire...
I've got a project coming up that's going to require several (10) 4x8 sheets of 3/4" MDF. Is there one place better to by MDF than another? I know they sell it at the BORG but I really hate giving those places my business and try and avoid them at all costs.
Thanks
I've needed wall storage in my garage for quite some time now. I have 3 sheets of 3/4 MDF for another project that a friend decided not to go through with. As it's for my garage I don't really care that its going to be made of MDF and those sheets are driving me crazy.
I have found tons of...
I have a 4' x 9' assembly table that's topped with 7/8" MDF. Unfortunately during the construction of the new shop some of my "former" farm hands left it outside in the rain, and the top kinda did the hootchy - kootchy all over the place.
Can anybody advise me where the most economical place...
I'm getting ready to build a cross-cut sled (Shop Notes #99). The plans call for a ply base. I don't have any ply but I've got quite a lot of MDF. Is there any reason I shouldn't use the MDF for all of it (base, fences, etc.)? Thanks for the help.
