A Long but Enjoyable Day at IWF

Yesterday morning I left home at 5AM and drove to Atlanta for IWF. Wisely, I parked for free at an outlying MARTA station and bought a $4 round trip ticket. Walked into the show at 9:15. Here are some pictures and a report. Welcome to the World Congress Center and IWF 2008! Everyone was...

Mark Spagnolo (The Wood Whisperer) gave a thorough demonstration of the new Kapex sliding compound miter saw by Festool. What a nice guy and a great tool! His wife was there, too and she was doing a Live Pod-cast to their website while I was there (I'll need to check it out for re-runs!)

You need somewhat larger machines to make an entire door, including hinge and lock mortises -- this one will produce 200 per day at $2.35/hour!

The ShopBot Buddy -- this is a great design for a smaller shop CNC machine -- the work piece is moved along the X-axis from under the table and the Y- and Z-axes move across overhead -- allows larger work pieces on a smaller footprint.
