I have a tendency to acquire info for future projects FAR in advance of starting them. On that note, can wood that has been dyed be glued without difficulty using CA or PVA or do I need to mask off glued areas like I would do with traditional stains ? Thanks :wsmile:

Glenn,
Dye shouldn't affect glue if the dye is dry. I would use denatured alcohol as a diluent for the dye.

Denatured Alcohol (DNA) dries fast, causes less raised grain and sets the Transfast liquid dye better for me than water or a mix of water and DNA. I have had issues w/dried glue causing ghost lines when applying dye post gluing but can't say I've ever dyed then glued. Probably a good idea. May not be a big deal if you're neat and not sloppy like me w/glue. This means getting the alcohol solubile version of the dye.

TransTint liquid metal acid dyes are soluble in either water or alcohol. I don't think it would matter which medium was used when glueup is an objective. Raised grain would actually help a glue bond.
