Wood Dye Recommendations

I have turned a number of Christmas ornaments using pine, maple and cypress scraps. LOML would like to see them in various colors. "TransTint" is one brand I have used in the past, but at $23 a bottle; it gets expensive if she wants variety of different colors....no,I prefer not to paint.

Anyone recommend a cheaper alternative?

Thanks,

Wayne

Feibing's Leather Dye. Yes, it is originally made for leather....but works equally well on wood. Cheap. And - you can reduce them with alcohol ( DNA ) to "thin" out the strength/intensity. Amazon is about the best place to get them.. LOTS of colors....

Also consider Chestnut Spirit Stains or Artisan Premium Stains. If I recall, Chestnut is around $15 per bottle and Artisan around $10 for 8 oz bottles.

I know someone who uses tattoo inks because of the very broad color range and vibrancy (I plan to try it on a basket weave one of these days). Tattoo inks can get expensive.
