That's how I was trying to store mine, but with a small shop your method takes a whole wall to store my clamps. Thus, my reason for stacking my clamps out from the wall. I can only get to one clamp of each size at a time, but as soon as I take that one there is another one that size right behind it. I have too many other things on my shop walls and space there is precious. I now have all my clamps there in one 3 1/2' wall section, and my lathe is below / in front of the clamps.
