Well, Roubo is just about finished.

I have pretty much finished the bench. I still have the deadman to make, but once I got the leg vise made, it's real to me.

And since nothing exists unless there are pictures, here are some.

the long stretchers are joined to the legs with through tenons 2"x3"x5" long. (through the 5" leg)

And on top I built a wagon vise for holding pieces with my dog holes.

Here it is in my very messy shop. The only electricity I use is for the lights, radio and a shop vac.

In one of my recent posts I talk about the only time I had to use a tailed tool, and it was because I wan't thinking. I could have avoided it solely by clamping a board to the back of the leg. Doh!

But I've had a great deal of fun and learned a lot.

Great job and it really looks stout. You won't regret making it, thats for sure. After I made my bench, I wish I had incorporated a wagon vise into it. Would love to have a "Benchcrafted wagon vise" but don't have the extra pesos right now.

Right after the check clears. You don't want to know how much, just send a blank one. :gar-La;

And Mike, you're right, stout is better. My bench is really only 5 feet long, but the top alone weighs 140 pounds and it doesn't matter what I do on it, the thing does not move.

It helps that I put thin cork pads on the bottom of the feet because raw wood just slides like an ice skater across my fake wood floor.

I would love one of those Benchcraft wagon vises as well. But yeah, they cost a bit more than my approx. $25 wagon vise. And, in the end, it may take me more time to crank my vise in and out, but it holds my work just as tightly.

Once I figured out how to actually make it, the design is actually quite simple. I'm glad I did it.
