Since I had come up with a workable method for this inlay
http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7343
I wanted to see how it would work in a segmented blank.
Knight in white castle
ASpen and maple segment alternative ivory shield
bloodwood cross
satin gold cigar

You are definately a master pen-maker ... when I finally get a lathe, are you offering lessons? :eusa_danc

That's very sharp! How did you decide which woods to use for the segmented pieces?
The body of the blank is a test for another pen I want to make, I was testing Aspen as to color and "workabilty"
I think Jeffs Holly might work better but this had good results.
I used maple veneers because I had them already dimensioned.(.020)

How easy/difficult was the Aspen to work with?
Aspen is soft and tears easy.
What I usually do is turn rough round and then stabilize with CA as I go.
I use a skew from roughing to finish and hone the edge.I never touch a grinding wheel.
I don't sharpen my pocket knife on a wheel, sharpening turning tools on a wheel doesn't make much sense to me.
No Grinder, no need to spend money or time on jigs to get a "perfect edge"
BAck to the Aspen.
It is a porous wood and absorbs the CA rather easily.
Color is usually preety light and I can get it at the Blue box all the time.

Stellar pen Eagle! I'm having to resort to the thesaurus with each new pen post. And I like this one best of all

That's sharp, Eagle. It definately reminds me of a castle tower like from Rapunsel (sp??) It is amazing from the picture it looks like the maple vaneer matches the satin gold? I expect it at least compliments each other well....
