I'm afraid if I put a dust collector in my shop, it would take a look around, get scared and run out the door.

Good luck with it Ernie ! I've had a 1029z for years and it's as strong of a DC as you'll need. You can add a thien style collector to make it a two stage, and even a filter instead of a bag for getting more fines. The best DC, other than a cyclone that you can find for a small shop, IMHO.
