My dad has a large white oak on his property that he is going to have cut down. I haven't measured the circumference but I couldn't reach all the way around it and I am 6'1". It is a "yard tree" but I am 90% sure it has no metal in it - he always told my brother and me not to put nails in trees. The tree is tall and straight. Dad said I could have the tree. I'd like to have it cut and dried so I could make some furniture out of it. Can anyone recommend someone for the job? It is important that my dad's yard not be messed up in the process (within reason).

Thanks!

They always have metal in them. I just split up a 4 foot diameter white oak that was historical in nature and had "no metal" as well.

It had electrical grounding rods and about a dozen cut nails near thee heart. The tree was 290 years old so it was nailed in during the 1700's.

It will probably have nice wood if large and quartersawn properly, but assume any, yes any and all yard trees have metal in them if its an established homestead.

good luck!
