First up is the last large bowl from a tree I started working on over 3 years ago:

I tried but couldn't give this wood away :).

Next is a piece of sweet gum. Not my best turning but the wood makes up for it:

Merry Christmas all!

So Salem, how do you finish the bottom to remove the mortise or whatever you used to hold the piece.

Very nice looking.

Ken,
First and foremost I really don't know what I am doing :).

But I usually use a recess and 50mm jaws for most bowls. I have a large shop made set of cole jaws (I didn't make it though) for cleaning up the base: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1419111121.385589.jpg

I usually finish sand before reversing though.

That wood has character! Beautiful!

I had to look it up: I picked up the wood on 4/2012:

I had way too much and could not give it away!! This was the last bowl from that tree. But it made many more bowls:

Three years of Christmas presents!

Now I am sad that it is all turned :(. Oh well I still have some smaller chunks!
