Today while I had slipped away to the local grocery store I returned home to find this wonderful surprize. The local Wood Fairy had paid me a visit and has left me a wonderful gife of about 20-30 bf of this Brazillian Iron wood. Its nice to have friends.

Looks like Ipe Tabebuia spp. Very hard, 3680 on the Janka hardness scale, and very heavy. It will dull your tools fast. When I build a deck using it, I figure in a new saw blade for every 200 sq. ft. Must be pre-drilled for screws. don't even think of nailing it. Sands and finishes well. Great rot resistance.
Very nice looking wood once you get past it's working properties.
Some of my Ipe projects -
