Worked on this on the truck. It is for my brothers girlfriend.
The body is oak, the bottom and shelf bottom is 1/8" hardboard and the top is 5/8" mdf veneered bubinga. It is my 1st veneer job. I was at a Woodcraft in Orlando today and he lasered the bottom for me. Need to spray it and line the bottoms with velvet. The top tray has a diagonal cross divider.

My only dilemma is that I need some kind of lid support. Not expensive and not bulky. I am open to suggestions.

Not only is it a great looking box, but you made it while on the road. Amazing. :notworthy:

Here is the finished box. One coat of amber shellac for color and satin lacquer on top. The lining is red velvet.

Have I ever told you how much I hate installing hardware!!

Tom,

Beautiful job:eusa_danc

Agreed on the hardware..the lid support you used (Brusso) is a real pain:no:

How did you do the signing?

Don, I was in the Woodcraft in Orlando and he has a laser on-site and he did it for me before I glued up the box.

Nice box! I think it takes almost as much effort to make a box as it does to make a chest :).

I make several small boxes and what works best for me as a lid stop is a small (3/8") width- 45 degree triangle strip glued in the appropriate spot on the back. Simple, cheap, functional and unobtrusive.:icon_thum

Dick I did think of something like that. I think I will try it on my next box. Show us a picture of one you did like that if you can.
