Shop-Made Feather Board/Single-Point Fence Jig

Last, but not least, another shop-made jig! This one is from WOOD magazine - June/July 2003. I already have a fence mounted single-point attachment for my 16'' Jet band saw - so I doubt I will ever use that part of the jig; especially since I do not have a miter slot on the left side of the blade. The tall feather board was what I needed!

What's the "feather" part made of? It looks like some flexible plastic type material. I could use one of those too.

Funny you should ask! I always called it Formica (aka Xerox, Kodak, etc).:gar-La;. I think they call it laminate (kitchen counter tops).

Interesting, I have always found laminate to be a brittle material. Does it have enough flex to apply pressure and allow the stock to move. I would consider using something like rubber mud flap material. It's flexible and still stiff enough to apply the needed pressure.
