Shark CNC - Initial cut is too deep

The Shark HD510 may not have the homing switch installed by default. I'm not able to select it when the machine is on.

I searched "homing shark CNC" and from what I can tell , those machines dont have XYZ limit switches to home to. I dont know how it knows where it is then, seems like a serious design flaw ......

With Next Wave machines, once "X" and "Y" part origin is set, that becomes your "Home" position...It can be anywhere on the machine bed.

Bill - post up the gcode file and the .crv VCarve file.

Also would recommend you post a picture or video showing the problem you described in your OP - I need those other 960-ish words LOL

Chris - Shark claims to have a home position in the LLH corner for XY (presumably there’s one for Z too). No idea of the mechanics Shark uses to find that. (Finding X/Y Zero after an Estop occurrence - NextWave CNC

Presumably stall homing of some sort. Mechanical switches are better- stall homing can lead to homes being established incorrectly if the thresholds for the stall are wrong, and different seasons can require different settings at times. I have a stall homing cnc and while it's only a problem very rarely, it is something to be cognizant of.

That said I can't see how stall homing could cause it to mill deeper than desired.

I will try to post this after work and maybe even a video. Guarantee as soon as I try - it'll work just fine. ;-)

And...it worked fine. Odd. I only tested on one file though. I'll tinker with it more and see if the problem recurs. And this time when I turned my machine on - the home button was selectable.

welcome to the world of CNC, where problems come and go with no changes.
That has never been my experience. But that could be the difference between professional quality CNC machines and hobbyist level with cheap electronics, drivers and motors.

Well, I’m going to count it as a win 🏆 ..for the time being anyways.

Sometimes power cycling clears a fault or other transient condition.
