I've looked this up online and have seen lots of back and forth about this, but thought I would open it up here.

In the past, whenever I've done an end grain to end grain joint (on a round form as in turning), I use dowels to help secure it, but reading some turners stories they do end grain to end grain joints just fine. I guess the issue is with end grain to long grain. So as long as all the grain is going in the same direction it doesn't matter which direction?

Seems like most turners use end grain to end grain for segments, and then the rings attach long grain to long grain, I'm wanting to do long grain segments and attach the rings with end grain to end grain.

Am I asking for trouble doing a end grain to end grain joint on a hardwood with no other support, or is this fine?

Thanks!
