Peel and stick veneer

Has anybody used Rocklers peel and stick veneer? I just bought some and want to use it over a substrate of Birch plywood. The instructions mention sealing the wood first. Are they talking about just porous woods or all woods and will thinned shelac do the trick?

I would think the shellac trick would work, but I might also call Rockler. IIRC they are reputed to have great phone service for questions like this?

Larry, I would think the surface would need to be oil free and sealed. Thinking a wipe down with denatured alcohol and some type of sealer, but would be best to call the folks you bought it from.
