Sorry, pencils are dangerous in space (shavings are flammable, graphite is a conductor) so pens are the only choice
The Fisher space pen was developed for about $1 million but expense was footed by the Parker company and they (still) sell well
I prefer fountain pens or Uni Ball 1 mm gel pens for most writing. If I use a ball point it usually has a space pen refill in it, because it's one of the very few ball points that doesn't skip!
