My first craft show

My mom and sister gave me a portion of their table space at a small community craft show. This was my first show and I was not well prepared. I did manage to sell 3 pieces and made $90. Got an invitation to set up a another show in November. The November show is a pretty big event that is well attended. I plan to be much better prepared.

I do one big craft show a year. Been doing it for over 20 years. I have learned a lot by trial and error. How big a space will you have and what do you make? As Mike said post a couple pictures.

I do a few small shows. I make enough to keep me in wood and blades. That keeps me happy.

Being my first show and not being well prepared, I didn’t even take any pics. My little corner of the table was somewhat filled with a few bowls, some bottle stoppers and openers, and mostly pens. I had about 75 pens displayed. Sold 2 pens and a seam ripper.

This is a pic I made of some pens prior to the show.

Here are a few tips for the next one.
- Get yourself a table(s) and a solid-colored tablecloth. Black or red work well.
- Get a Square or other similar device for taking credit cards
- At the event dress nice. Not your shop clothes. You are selling yourself as well as your product
- Greet everyone who walks by
- Get and hand out business cards
- If you have a phone or tablet, use it ONLY for doing credit card transactions or showing a client a picture
- Stand if possible. If you must sit, consider a tall chair or stool.
- Don't pack up early

Great tips, thank you.
A couple of those ideas I have already got in the works. Tent, table, tablecloth, cards, and a square are all on the way. I spent many years in retail and management so I’ve got that part covered also.
I was piggybacking on my mom’s table (handmade blankets and such) but in the future I will have my own space next to her and I will be able to display items better.
