Today I finished burning the feather detail and made the legs.I use a heavy gauge copper wire for the leg supports then apoxy sculpt the leggings.
For the base I smeared bondo on a oval plaque and used a stiff brush to dab in texture .When painted the texture will simulate a sandy soil.I uses the same technique on my quail and it turns out nice painted.
Feet are generic toes only in a size that is to scale of a 1/2 size miniature prarie chicken.
See pics more later.

That is absolutely amazing! Holy cow!!!!

So you carve it, then burn feather detail and then it looked like you "primed' it and finally did what looks like lots of painting. If I were to look at it real close, can you see through the final paint coat and still see the detail of the very first burning you did? How does that work?

Simply yes you can see the detail burning under the following layers the effect is to create layers of texture to exaggerate the feathers so that the paint layers are enhanced .
