Hi all --

I'm posting for my dad, Michael. My dad is a retired and lives in Chapel Hill. He has been an avid woodworker for years and years. Only problem is that since he moved into a condo, there's no room for his shop and tools. Does anyone in Chapel Hill or the surrounding area have a shop that they're looking to share or rent out for a handful of hours each week?

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Best,
Ben

Hi Ben. WWelcome. There is a lot of friendly folks on the site. What I suggest you do is:

1. Have your dad join the site. It is a great way to meet fellow wood workers.

2. We are having our annual picnic in Chapel Hill on Saturday. Come and join us.

+1 :thumbs_up:thumbs_up Having just moved from a condo, I can definitely say that I've been there and feel his pain. Most members on here have their shops stacked full of equipment, but there may be someone open to letting him come by and work on some things. As for actually renting his own shop, depending on his financial situation, it might be worth it to look into renting a small warehouse space that is close to where he lives. :eusa_thin

Hi Ben,

If you can't locate someone on the forum here, you and your dad should check out TechShop RDU. It's located in Raleigh near the airport so it might be a good drive from your location.

They currently have more metalworking equipment than woodworking (or that was my impression at least) but I believe they are adding more. They've also just moved and still in the process of setting the place up. Because of that, I only saw a few tools, but I know they have more. They have a Sawstop table saw and Shopbot 4x8 router which would keep me occupied if they had nothing else.

A monthly membership is $100 which is a good deal for all that they have and they offer classes too. I just took one on the Epilog Laser cutter/etching machine and really enjoyed it.

Good luck finding a place!

Oh - I am not affiliated with Techshop in any way, just sharing.

The current woodworking equipment is listed here:

Scott (the owner) indicated he's getting a lathe. Not sure about plans for any other woodworking equipment at this time.

At the bottom of the main wiki page is a listing of the Work Areas. Equipment lists in some of the areas are incomplete.
