I picked up one of these on Jan 16

yesterday I hit the back and bevel with a Norton 8K, maybe 10 passes each, then made 10-12 passes on the bevel using mdf with honing compound, and put it in one of these newer Stanley 151s. I gave $15 delivered for the shave new and have used it for a few months now..

There is just no comparing the performance of the Stanley shave with the stock blade to the Hock. The chatter I had with heavier cuts using the stock Stanley blade disappeared with the Hock iron. Gone.
The Stanley was about .066" thick, the Hock about .095" thick.
The back was fairly flat but was not polished. The bevel was coarser ground than the back. After a few passes on the stone and mdf touchup the blade would shave cleanly.
I have gotten in the habit of just honing to razor sharp edge on the newer premium blades from LN, LV or Hock. Since I touch up so frequently the shave iron bevel will be polished by the time I finish a chair.
I know, no pics...but believe me, the blade makes the 151 a much higher quality tool.
I tried long grain and end grain, thin and heavy cuts. Nothing but butter. Man I'm gonna like shaving even more now.
