Hi,

I'm Zach Eakes... I'm a boat builder.

Currently reworking a 1942 Coast Guard Cutter http://83footernoel.blogspot.com/

I'm interested in improving my wood working... when the seams and joints matter for cabinetry and fancy work. Most everything I do is structural work and repair, and on the finish side wrapped in fiberglass primed and painted. I'm looking to shorten the learning curve on things finished bright...

Cheers,

Zach

Welcome to the sawdust pile. That's quite an undertaking! Enjoyed looking at your blog. Pictures are absolutely wanted on this web site.
I served aboard the USS Vance DER 387 in the 60's. It had an interesting history as she was first a Navy Destroyer Escort manned by a Coast Guard crew during WWll. Then she became a Coast Guard Cutter and later was returned to the Navy to serve as a Destroyer Escort-Radar Picket.
This is a great place to ask questions about just about anything woodworking connected, so don't hesitate to ask. And remember, pictures are important.
Happy sawdusting!

Welcome to the site, Zach. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I spent four years in the Coast Guard, but all of it was on helicopters, no boats.

Just checked a little of your work out, line your screws and washers up with them overlapping and you can get at least 13-15 in a hand full.Once when planking my batteries couldn't keep charged so I was using a Milwaukee 1/2" corded drill and didn't move my hand fast enough and got screwed to the side of the hull and couldn't reach the reverse on the drill.Done some real fine dance moves trying to get loose.

Zach,

Welcome. I'm in Morehead. I would like to come out to Ft. Macon and see this project sometime if that could be arranged.
