a magnetic base to align a table saw? If so maybe you can answer a few questions I have about the procedure.

Stuart, you are welcome to borrow my dial indicator and Wixey digital angle gauge. It's a great tool to check blade to table, mitre gauge, and numerous other settings.

If you use the jig in John White's book "Care and Repair of Shop Machines" you don't need the magnetic base. It is a block of wood clamped to the miter gauge. Really simple, but accurate. Does what $100 plus tools do except drain your wallet.
