I've been working on a pretty simple relief carving of a flower and the space between the petals are almost nill. I've been using a carving knife with a sharp point to nudge the stock out between these petals, but man is it tedious. Is there a simpler way or is this about it as far as options on something like this?

Thanks again,
Greg

A picture of the problem would help.

Rather than removing the wood, could you compress it with a hammered punch? I beleive stipple is the term.

I never considered dental picks. I thought about the micro tools and looked up info on them. They're still a bit too big. I've been using an X-acto knife, but it just a bit too tedious compared to what it should be. There has to be a better way. I'll look around for dental picks.

Thanks for the info:icon_thum

Just as an update, I ordered a set of dental picks. From the photos I saw, most have somewhat of a flat surface for sharpening. We'll see what they look like and I'll try to get some photos of the ends. I'm hoping the picture of the flower I've been working on shows up.

Thanks again for the ideas and suggestions:icon_thum
