I was assembling a gun rack and while putting the dove tails together i broke an end of the barrel rest off. I was able to glue it back together while putting the dovetails together. It is not noticeable.

I wiped down the glue joint with water.
Is there anything else i can do to make sure i got all of the excessive glue off before staining it?

I am afraid when i stain it it will not take the stain at the glue joint and leave it lighter than the rest of the rack.

thanks

One accepted method is to wipe the area with mineral spirits. Any glue on the surface should be apparent. Naphtha can be used the same way.

Wiping with mineral spirits will work but it takes the mineral spirits quite a while to evaporate before you sand or finish the item. You might want to try naphtha or denatured alcohol. They both will evaporate faster.

I used rubbing alcohol and didn't seen any glue line.
so hopefully it will not show anything when i stain.

Rubbing alcohol is not a good choice. It contains quite a bit of water and can raise the grain enough that you will have to do some more sanding. Use denatured alcohol for the best results.
