Can I put a top coat on some cutting boards I made? Used two coats of OIL thinnedabout 30% Can you put poly or similar on or is that not the norm for contact with food
I put two to three coats of mineral oil on mine, then, I take 1 part mineral oil to 2 parts wax, heat it till it's more than warm, but not hot, then generously apply that to the entire board.
You can put a topcoat on a cutting board, but it is not the norm. The surface film will be quickly cut and that can trap moisture and other crud. To get a topcoated look melt some wax into your MS like mentioned above and then buff that out to a nice satin seen. If the cutting board is not going to be cut on GF Salad Bowl finish is a good option.
