Hitch,Lovely
What was your choice of finish?
Andrew, Yes, drawer is poplar with a coat of Howard's Feed and Wax on it..Very nice. I love working with cherry. Poplar for the seconary wood?
Yes, I did. It's a table made from a Chris Schwarz DVD and that's the way he did it. Used a Jack plane and then a jointer plane to square and flatten everything up. It's a good deal of work and I was thinking next time I may try ripping the taper with my hand saw first and then using the planes.A very nice table. Looks great! Did you hand plane the leg tapers?
Yeah. I'm really enjoying working with Cherry the more I use it. I understand now why it's the favorite of so many people. I'm also learning a lot about how to match grain, appearance, etc. on the different parts to give the piece a look that's not too busy or distracting. Everything blends together nicely. Something I never gave that much thought to before.I have a few tapered leg pieces that I've made out of walnut. My wife likes walnut so that's what I use (I'm no idiot to threaten domestic tranquility). I have to say, though, that cherry looks so much better when used on a piece with the nice lines and good proportions like that table has.
