User Titles are being played with. They may disappear and re-appear as something that has no meaning. Please be patient.

The problem is that we have always used the term "Member". Unfortunetly, that term will have to be reserved for members of the Corporation. Will you have the opportunity to become Members of the Corporation? YES. But how, has not yet been decided.

You certainly can provide an opinion in this thread, if you wish. If fact you opinions and ideas on this subject will be appreciated. Advisory Panel, please DO NOT post here, but in the AP forum.

OK, what does being a member get you? Over simplistic. The right to vote for the Board of Directors and with enough votes of members, oust any Director or all of them. In other words, you can by your votes set the direction and policies of North Carolina Woodworker, Inc. and through it, this web site

There's two kinds of people in the world. Those that divide people into two groups, and those that don't.

To replace member, we could have "registered user" (as opposed to those who are "guests"), but that's kind of pointless...since guests can't post. I'd vote for a status that indicates level of weirdness, but I doubt we can agree on a scale.

I like the idea of being a Member of the corporation and contribute to everything that is NCWW. But, no reason for that to show up on the web site, that's more "status" symbol. I think we covered that when donations were discussed.

On my other board, we just have Donating Member, and it's blank for those that don't donate. Donating members get to have an avatar, get to customize their title, get picture hosting, and access to a private, non-moderated section and get more PM space. Non donating members just get to post.

Does this mean we will have some kind of initiation - scenes from animal house are coming back - maybe you have to be able to hand cut dovetails or something :icon_scra

I think we should try for something simpler. Like gluing your fingers together with CA glue :) If you've done that, please raise both hands.

(how come you always get me so far off topic?)

My son is in a HS Band, the wife and me go to the Band Boosters meetings[FONT=&quot], we can do very thang but vote! If we want to vote we must pay $10. each. But in order to vote on the stuff Steve talked about in the first post we may have to have "status".

Just my .02 :rolf:

I understand what you are saying about Status as it applies to those who are able to help in some way (in my case a small way) in maintaining this site. I do (and would continue to) object to "purchased" status. There are many levels of economic status here and I would hate to see anyone left out solely due to their economic situation.

:dontknow::dontknow::embaresse:embaresseI just did something and don't know how I did it. I went to 'toolman's' post and clicked on Quote. I added my response and clicked Enter. What came back up was toolman's post with deletions and my comments. I didn't want to change his post but somehow I did. Can this be corrected by any of the Moderators???

As I look back and contemplate, it appears that somehow my fingers had a mind of their own and they guided the mouse to Edit instead of Quote. My apologies to Toolman. I will discipline my fingers appropriately.

Since this is the friendliest woodworking site on the web why not use the title "friend" for users ? I understand the need to differentiate corporate members. As a former labor union executive I saw that a competing union had 2 categories of participants. "Members" with voting rights, and "friends" who either were ineligible to join or chose not to and did not have voting priveliges. If I understand correctly the corporate board is not trying to create "classes" of forum users but rather just reserve the "member" title for members of NCWW Inc. :wsmile:

I kinda like that. But, the two categories should not be mutually exclusive. The people who are members would still be friends! Of course, we should avoid classifications such as friends with benefits, special friends, imaginary friends etc.

Perhaps "comrade" would be better :) When you think about it - we share our expertise, give away our spare tools, notify one another about deals, all free of charge. OK, strike that. Maybe in 20-30 years or so.

But I do like the friendship idea. As Tracy's (newtowood - pending) sig states: Making friends one post a a time.
