I managed to swing some shop time over the past week and turned a few bottle stoppers from a piece of mystery wood ScottM gave me. All are finished with clear danish oil.
This first is a prototype for a design I plan on making in bulk and selling. It's important to hollow out the cup before forming the base and stem. The first attempt with a piece of crepe myrtle destroyed the threads and split the blank off the mandrel.
I started off thinking of making a bowling pin, but decided to turn it more in to a chess piece.
I based this off artillery shells from a video game.
This one was supposed to have a hole cut through it horizontally, but that didn't go according to plan so I salvaged the pre-threaded, rounded blank. I figured since I had to make it shorter, I might as well see ho small I can make it while still keeping it a little interesting. It's barely half the height of the bullet stopper. This one didn't get a full finish.
