I just edited a thread by Bryan S to remove the word highlighted in Red

The other was in broad daylight in the parking lot just about 100 feet from the building. A nurse was approached by some Hispanic males pretending to need directions. She was giving directions when two of them tried to circle around behind her. Her radar went off and took off running toward the building, they took off the other way. From the story she may have been an intended victem of a gang initiation.

I sent him an email stating the following:

I removed the word Hispanic from your post -- it does not change the intent of your post and we prefer not to include any racial or cultural stereotypes in posts. I trust you will understand.

I guess I think that the whole thread should be deleted on principal. The whole is crap. The idea of the gang initiations is mostly urban legend. The part of the post says to me whether or not specifically stated, that there are gangs of "people of color" who are there just dying to do harm to our "white women"

Whether or not that was what he meant, it is certainly a stereotype that he is playing into.

Also, look at where the thread went and is going. Reggie, of course, decided to add his $.02 by making a not so veiled reference to Obama politics and/or race.

Bryan's post after the removal the word was probably within policy, but it was the lead off in a thread that could go nowhere good. And of course, Reggie's post is clearly against policy. I will delete Reggie's post and send him a PM similar to the one I sent Jeff.

As to deleting the thread that is up to guys, but if you let it stand there will be others and it will get worse, IMHO

I've sent Reggie the following PM. I would consider it a first formal warning.

Reggie, I'm sure you have received the auto PM that was sent when I deleted the following post.

2 or 3 months ago I would have simply edited your post and just deleted that part in Red.

But things have changed and I and the staff somehow need to get your attention .

Part of this may be my fault. I have considered you a friend and perhaps when I saw some of your posts, I gave them the best possible interpretation.

About 2 or 3 months ago, I began to hear your name from some of the staff as one of the trouble makers, whose posts had to be watched carefully.:elvis: I certainly was surprised, because I didn't think of you that way. But having talked to some people and examining some of your posts more carefully, I see what is happening.
To oversimplify, there are probably 2 types of problem causing. There is the post that the author intends to be controversial, or against basic policy.
Basically, they are purposely trying to cause problems and/or publicly challenge the staff's right to do its job,etc.

Then there is post that is seen a "piling on". Take a bad situation and make it worse. This is where a large portion, if not all, of the staff see you.

I really hope that you will see this message from me as I intend it. You are a valuable member of this website, please think about what I am trying to say.

You won't regret it. Mary and I have had our for over 10 years. Just renewed. Saw a sign in a gun shop couple weeks ago. Poster of "Salesman of the Month!" I won't tell you whose pic was on it, but I bet you can guess!!

Thanks Steve. I am riding with Reggie to the lunch in Youngsville Tuesday and was planning on talking with him regarding his posts. Now we will still have a long talk but the tone may be somewhat easier. "A sincere thanks is meant by this post."
