I thought this may be some useful information... to calculate the end of the finger board at any given length of a stringed instrument.
To prevent the strings from gliding over the edge of the finger board while playing, a minimum distance (d) of about 1/8" .125 needs to be maintained.
Common 6 sting electric guitar nut width is 1 5/8" = (A) 1 3/8" + 1/8 (d) + 1/8 (d)
Common 4 string electric bass nut width is 1 1/2" = (A) 1 1/4" + 1/8 (d) + 1/8 (d)
Bridge stringspread (B) varies wildly based on the maker.
Thanks
