I need to purchase four small cabinet door locks for the spice boxes I am making. These need to be small mortice-style locks. The max mortice pocket depth is 1 1/2" and the thickness max is 3/8". I have checked Brusso, Horton and others. Londonderry Brasses website is down. Any ideas Thanks

Not certain, but woodworker supply #887-725 I think is within your dimensions...

That one sure is small but will not work as it does not have a standard latch bolt

Did you check Rockler?

Thanks, Their chest lock should work. It will be interesting to cut the 1 1/2 deep pocket when the stile is only 1 5/8 wide. The price is also good as I have to buy four

Thanks. they seem to have a lot but could not find what I need

Will this work better, a bit pricey though.

http://www.rockler.com/full-mortise-small-box-lock

That will not work as it does not have a latch bolt - it will need to be like a normal door lock with the lock body and latch bolt in the door and only a stake plate on the jamb.

Here is a photo of what I am making

The photo actually shows a half mortice lock

The link you sent me also included a small full mortice lock that will work much easier. At $40 a piece they seem pricey but ...

Thanks

Lee Valley carries a lot of hardware. Their website has 3 main sections Woodworking, Hardware, and Gardening. A search through their hardware section might prove fruitful. I recently bought a cylinder lock from them to replace one on a cabinet for which I lost the key during the move. Found exactly what I was looking for.

I really have no idea where to find the lock. However, the design and piece you are making is beautiful. Did you plan it out yourself. The wood with the inlays on the door back and burls on the front is just perfect for that design and piece.

I was going to suggest a bent rusty nail, but that wouldn't look quite right on those gorgeous spice cabinets. I checked my favorite suppliers, Cherry Tree Toys, and Wildwood Designs but nothing there. Really hope you find the right hardware Phil; those cabinets will be magnificent.

Phil, Ball and Ball is going to be more comparable to Londonderry Brasses if you want to use a more period correct lock.

I have literally bought dozens of locks etc. from them. Usually ended dealing directly with the owner when I had a question. Very satisfied with them.

I'd be surprised if Ball and Ball weren't familiar with the type of lock Londonderry sold. Probably could refer you somewhere else if B&B doesn't stock it.
