I was on Glenwood Avenue today and stopped in Woodcraft. Everything is pretty much gone but it is still only 20% off. I asked one of the guys what they were going to do with all of the fixtures and left over stuff, and he told me that the new franchisee's were buying everything. It turns out that these owners are going out of business , but a new Woodcraft with different owners will be opening up (it could be as close as across the highway) soon. The guys working there are all going to be talking to the new owners on Monday about new jobs. So there will be a Woodcraft in the area after all.

I personally wish all of the guys at Woodcraft good luck, and hope they get hired by the new owners if that is what they wish.

That is the deal indeed. And I think the "new" owners are already Woodcraft owners themselves just adding to the business. Glad to see they are staying around! :eusa_clap

Yes this is great news..... Now only if they would move closer to Cary / Apex. I really hate the traffic on Capital and Glenwood. :eusa_pray

I do wish the best of luck for all of the employees at the Raleigh Woodcraft. Each and everyone of them would be a great addition to the new staff.

Don't know if the traffic is any better in Apex/Cary but it sure is closer to my house.:)

In retail location is definitely very important, you need to be close to your market. I don't know if Cary/Apex has any more ww'ers than Ral but I do know one other important factor in retail = OVERHEAD. Re: rent $$. It is very common nowadays for a lease arrangement to stipulate not only your monthly rent, but they also take a % of your gross. If you aren't grossing enough in their opinion they don't renew your lease. You may have lots of very nice customers and be a very nice man, but biz is biz and we are here to make money from your space, so don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Don't know if that was a factor or not with Woodcraft, but in many franchise operation the O/O winds up working not for themselves but for the franchisor and the landlord ... retail is NOT for the faint of heart. And if you were to need proof of that just look a few doors east of Woodcraft to Pleasant Valley!

but how many would have visited less often? I would have visited Woodcraft every day if they were next door to me... but how many more people from Hope Mills would have? Every location is a compromise, and the closer one gets to the center of ones geographic/demographic target, the better.

Unfortunantly, visits don't equate to sales. I visited whenever I was in the Raleigh area (not real often) but being poor, I never spent more than $10-$15 per visit. I could have visited every day and still not spent more than $10-$15/month. That would not have kept them in business.

Personally, I hope they do well and I hope they hire Tom as the Manager.

Living out here in the western end of the state, I've never been and probably never would be at that store. I know that I have bypassed some really good deals for slightly less good deals just to make purchases at the
Greenville (SC) store. When I get around to buying a big lathe I will probably purchase it through them simply to help them out. That is presuming that I buy a brand they sell, and they are still living when that happens (no they aren't closing or old & dying, I am just NOWHERE near buying a big lathe). It would be easy to BORG or Internet any of these stores right out of business.
