There are lots of new features, changes, addons and more that we can do with this site software.

As near as I can tell, we don't have a forum or process in place to review these "ideas".

Would this be a task for staff, Board, Webmasters and/or monkeys throwing darts? And yes, of course I'll mention a new committee :)

Yesterday, I put in a new button for Photo Popups. While it seemed like a good idea (to me), it dawned on me there wasn't a good way to solicite feedback or get "approval" to make the change.

We have had users suggest things such as a photo slider/lightbox. Tracy has asked about adding in the MobileWeb feature. I have an idea to reuse the Poll code to create an event signup sheet.

One rather simple suggestion is a new Forum in Admin & Moderators area "Ideas". A place to post and discuss new ideas that could be then converted into "Staff Todo".

Sounds like it has promise, adding the forum that is. I think discussing the add ons is better than just throwing them to the wolves. So to speak. In my opinion, this should be a staff task.

I believe as well that the staff (Administrators and Site Programmer) should handle this, and all the staff test it out. But the Webmasters would need to be in the lead. The Webmaster is over all web site staff. A forum to place ideas on the table, would be great but the BOD would tell the webmaster the ones to look at first.

I like the "Ideas" topic. I can't comment on the other stuff 'cause I'm technically challenged.

I like the idea, but another forum...we already have a lot of forums. One option would be to create a "ideas" thread in either this forum or the Programmer's forum, and keep it active as a collection point for new features.

I agree on "YAF" (Yet Another Forum).

What about adding some new ThreadFields to the existing Programmers Forum?

New Idea, Request for Review, Signoff, Minor Enhancements, Major Changes

I would worry a single thread would be hard to follow over time.

As Chad mentioned, changes require BoD for approval. Maybe the BoD can establish guidelines for what changes they want to approve vs. things we as a staff can agree on.

Something like adding a new Smilie might not be something the BoD needs to vote on but changing the site color scheme would be.

I concur that it should be a "staff" area, and not the BOD.

Some of the worst companies that I've seen were those where all ideas and direction came from the top down. Some of the best companies were those that encouraged all team members to take the ball and run with it.

The more that we can encourage staff to take ownership and run with things (keeping the BOD in the loop but not necessarily asking them to make the decisions), I think that our forum will be much better.

My 2 cents...

coming in late to this discussion. if you wait for the BOD or even the webmasters to approve things, nothing will ever get done. I think people need to take the bull by the horns and just do them. Yes there needs to be coordination, if there is more that one person involved. For instance, I stepped on your toes. you told me, I apologized and you moved on to take the next step.:eusa_danc

Right now our tech staff as an organization is not really working as it should. That needs to be fixed. But, for now you should just go with it. Take over and do it.:icon_thum
