Fed,
The piece is great. Could you provide a little more of an explanation on "woodcore" - what do you mean by wood staves - is that the substrate for the veneer? What kind of wood do you use for the wood staves?
Thanks,
Bill
hi bill.
woodcore is just what it says. its wood boards glued up to make the sheet and veneered with the wood of choice. plywood has alternating layers of veneer this doesnt. the core wood is soft wood that is quite stable. the pieces that make up the core are [without going to look] around 1 3/4 wide and slightly thinner than the finished product. I got it at jacksons in fuquay. the finished product is also the corect size meaning 1/2" is 1/2" 3/4" is 3/4" ect.... this being all wood running it the same direction makes it machine just like real wood. it doesnt have the tendancy to tear out when jointed and is much better on the jointer knives. plywood doesnt joint well at all. on a piece like this using plywood I would band the edges before jointing. with this stuff there is no need to do that. you cut and glue as you would with real wood. the core is a different color so you cant leave edges exposed but you can gat perfect joined edges without the grain and color changes you would get from banding and then jointing. I dont have a pic [wish I did] it would make it much easier to explain.:gar-Bi
