Need to identify this wood

[Guiding Hand]

Bought this wood a few years ago. I finally dug it out to turn. Now I don’t remember what it is.
It is an exotic, fairly heavy for its size and feels waxy to touch.
I am attaching two photos, one of the end grain and one of a turned and sanded handle.
Any help appreciated!

Looks like purple heart to me. I have had purple heart turn brown after milling.

If it were purpleheart, wouldn't the freshly-turned handle be purple?

No, not necessarily, I have seen both Purple heart and Paduk darken and the center core of the wood is darkened as well

Guys this was freshly turned. It hasn’t had time to darken. This is the natural color.

If it dulled your turning chisels quickly, then it it's definitely Ipe. That's some hard wood......

Before I read any if the other responses, I thought Ipe. There is little doubt.

My first thought was ipe as well, but it looks like the dust on the first piece pictured is brownish. The little amount of ipe that I have worked created yellow dust when machining.

If it dulled your turning chisels quickly, then it it's definitely Ipe. That's some hard wood......

I sharpened a couple times while turning.

Ipe has a fire resistance rating akin to concrete - and a density pretty close as well.......

Purple heart:

Purple heart will turn brown during machining ... it should turn purple again after a couple of days ...
