I was back and forth about how to install; at first I used the window adapter a couple of times to test and tried to decide whether or not to go under a "shelf" made for the water heater. I decided not to; might be a code issue and where it is makes it easy to get at and I can choose to roll the unit out a little.

Anyway, here is the unit:

9000 BTU. It is a single hose:

which is less efficient, but the price was right and I have so many air leaks into my garage I amnot sure it makes much difference.

Here is a close up of outside:

and one from further:

it is actually in that picture but you have to look real close behind the bush on the right. There will be no HOA complaints.

Oh yeah - it works very well. I haven't had sever weather to test it on yet, but it has made the area usable in short order when it was too hot and muggy. In conjunction with a fan, I can start working almost immediately no matter what the temp is when I walk out there.

Looks like a professional installation to me. I really had to look at the distant photo to find it. YOU ROCK! Now with AC.

I was fortunate that we recently had the house painted, so there was some paint that is still a perfect match. I did the vent using the quick connect collar that was on the window adapter so that it is a "proper" installation in the wall. I can still use the window adapter if I need to temporarily; the tube fits the adapter hole without the quick connect. The window adapter was big part of justification. We had the house A/C go out a couple of weeks ago and it would have been nice to have a portable.

Well, guess what I have figured out?

My freezer is a heater! Yesterday afternoon, when it was over 90, it was confortable in most of my garage except very near the uninsualted porrly sealed garage doors and right next to the door into the house, which seemed odd as that is the most interior part of the garage and has some A/C leak out of the house every time I go in or out. We have an upright deep freezer in the garage just outside the door to the house. I did not realize it was generating so much heat until I started cooling the rest of the space. I will have to see if I can clean the coils or something; it seems like it should not put out as much heat as it does.

Andy, you may also want to set a thermometer in there, you may have the freezer set too cold, which will cause it to dump more heat in the shop area... simply changing the thermostat up a few notches may improve things significantly.

It also needs defrosting badly. It is one of the type with cold coils inside the shelves and the shelves are iced over (door got left partially open for a little while). I didn't consider that it might have efficiency effects that would cause a lot of heat.

Looks good Andy!
Try some insulation on the exhaust hose. It will help.

Thanks! I think it came out okay.

The hose is quite warm to the touch, but I have been rolling it out sometimes to aim the vent right toward the area where I work and then rolling it back. I guess I could insulate it at full extended length, but then it wouldn't collapse when I rolled it back. Also, in the picture of it, remember that it is in a coil right in front of the inflow that will go outside; the inflow that will stay inside is up top. Yes, it is inefficient, but I think it will overcome that by just running a little longer.
Right now, the heat from it is negligible compared to the freezer. I don't know why I didn't think about that and look into it earlier. There have been mild days when I was surprised at how hot it was and didn't think to look for an excessive heat source in the garage. :eusa_doh:Now that I can cool most of the garage, it is really obvious.
