Tracy, the hours of work you've put into this very much appreciated. The consolidated version Rob did makes good sense to me. Thank you both.
I need to know what a "soft delete" is. Also, for the sake of new and future moderators, could you link the Guideline item with the corresponding How to
in the training topic?

I need to know what a "soft delete" is.
A "soft delete" is when a post is deleted from general viewing, but deep down in the bowls of the system it is still there. A "hard delete" is when the item is completely removed from the database.

Think of it as deleting a file in Windows. It doesn't actually go away, it goes into the recycle bin ("soft delete"). You can restore it if you change your mind. Once you empty the recycle bin, it's gone for real ("hard delete").

So does "soft delete" equal "unapproving a post"?

Cathy, un-approving a post puts it into moderation. To do a soft delete select the thread or post, scroll down to the bottom of the page and choose delete from the moderation tools. It will be in the drop down. Then a box comes up and I believe soft delete option is selected by default.
