King-size headboard project

I finished this one a bit ago, but forgot to post a picture. I needed to freshen the paint job to match some new bedroom furniture - that the LOML BOUGHT :no:! I think she got tired of waiting for the other pieces to get to the top of my project list.

So anyway, here's the headboard... Dan

Let me guess-
He started out with a 6" blank, rounded it down, then removed it from the lathe.

Placed it in a U-Shaped jig for the band saw, trued up one side, then jointed that face. Squared up an adjacent edge, then planed the opposite faces. Voila! Square!

How else would you do that?

Jim - isn't that the story of wood? we just keep changing it from round to square and back again so we can say we made it better!

regarding the finish - I am not one to paint furniture, but... this was originally built to match existing white furniture, so the headboard was painted white, then the white furniture was moved to goodwill and dark brown furniture showed up in its place.

Now don't let this get around... instead of building a new headboard, I just used off the shelf brown spray paint to match it to the new bedroom furniture. So you know my dirty little secret...fortunately, yes it was just pine.

I guarantee this will be the last furniture I paint in a long time - we wood workers have a reputation to keep up :gar-Bi
