The best DVD available is Turning Wood with Richard Raffan. It is a complete course for the beginner who has not the first clue. It covers everything from sharpening a gouge to making a bowl.

I'll throw in a plug for the Alan Lacer series. Taming of the Skew is very informative for spindle turners.
