I am looking into edging one side of a veneered panel with hardwood. If I want to stain/dye either side with different hues. Whats the procedure for this, do I do it before I glue em or after they are glued.

If I pre color, I am worried that during the glueup there will be squeezeout that I will have to be removed. Any sort of sanding or scrapping will probably remove some of the stained surface. If its a water based stain, wiping off excess glue with a semi damp cloth might do something to the stain too.

If I apply the color after and mask off the opposing sides, I am worried about bleeding underneath the tape.

thnx...Steve

Steve in my experience wood glue will not hold up well when applied after staining. You might have to go to the poly glue or epoxy.

I'm expecting the two edges being glued would be raw, the facing surface would be stained.
