Well, maybe more of what the books call "a working group".

Taking the fantastic idea The Bas came up with his Introduction to Photo Posting video http://www.ncwoodworker.net/forums/f39/including-pictures-posts-how-25046/

I'd like to set up and help work on a series of How To Videos pertaining to the site.

Some Ideas

* NCWW, Inc who we are, what we do
* Basic Site Use (geared to new members, keeping in mind a minimal level of computer experience)
* Photo Posting (wow, done!)
* Polls
* Download Library
* Flashchat
* Menu Bars
* Help Desk (how to ask for, and what to ask for)
* Calendar

During a very interesting Breakfast Club flashchat, it came to light there is a real demand for such things.

I'd envision it as a group of site members, not a staff/board function.

As staff, we could work on the integration of the videos. Hopefully get members to work on them and contribute.

How's this sound? Or, should I say, look :)

I think this is a great idea. It means new users will enjoy the site quicker, longtime users get more mileage out of the site, and reduces help desk requests.
I'd be happy to record and/ or edit videos. I'm fortunate enough to have a good microphone and software for this. I think the videos would be much better overall if we had a variety of authors though, it certainly adds to the community feeling.

The first item you listed, what is NCWW and what does it do is a terrific subject. With some footage from a shop crawl, a lumber run, a lunch bunch and a Klingspor demo we could make a great 5 minute promo video that would really draw people in. Many people are sort of shy when it comes to signing up for things, since people don't quite know what to expect. A video would go a long way to reach out to people and show them that even though we're weird, we're friendly and harmless. Mostly anyway :)

I agree that it is a great idea -- but I am curious about the original video that Bas did (which is excellent). Are you still waiting for William Shatner to do the voice over? It is still languishing in a place where no users will ever see it -- IMHO, it should be in the FAQ Forum! Show it off and let's use it to solicit member input on the list that Jim and the Breakfast Club came up with...

Thanks for the reminder Rob. The only reason I hadn't posted it in the FAQ yet is because the written version needs to be updated to reflect the new site features. I'll see if I can fix that up this week and put the two together.

If it helps with the text version, here is the announcement thread for photopost:

I can setup a place we can work, probably a new committee forum? We can do this one all public. See if we can get folks to join in.

I'll work with folks signed up to be Photographers on the crawls to see if we can get a few video shots.

This is fun stuff! I got call into people who know people who think they knew someone who once knew a person who sat next to someone who might have seen William Shatner. :)

I've created a forum under Committees named "Guides and Helpers - Working Group"

Bas, when you are ready, we could kick off introducing your video.

One thing we have going for us, outspoken folks with limited patience for computer speak. I've received a number of great dope slaps of common sense :slap: from members.

Thanks!
Jim

What software package did you use?
Camtasia. There is a freeware product called Camstudio that does basic screen recording, but it does not have the fancy editing capabilities Camtasia has.
