Yes its my shop its cool now, its been 76 deg. all week.
I havent done anywood working in 3 weeks , my wife said if I was going to run the A/C in the summer and the heater in the winter I had to insulate the shop.
It was a work around job so it took 3 weeks, some things I could move from one place to another and some like the monster lathe I couldnt move at all, and I have 5 switch's and 28 outlets.
But its done now and nice inside, and as a bonus I made a small roof (porch or whatever) to keep the rain from comming straight in the door.
I have 2 metel doors but only use 1 99.9% of the time so I made a cover for the second one held on by 4 deck screws so I can remove it when I need the second door opened.

you can see the cover on this picture

Earl, you have come a long way in a short time. from dragging your tools from the utility room to the carport to work. And now you have a dedicated shop that is climate controlled!!!! Can you learn how to do woodwork without the summer sweats and the winter trimbling chills?

You have recently greatly improved your workspace and tools. Your skill was already top notch.

Congratulations, I know you will enjoy it.
James

p.s. Sounds like you have a very understanding and supportive wife.

Looking good Earl...I'm working on insulating and putting up OSB in my shop right now. btw, I can't tell if you've insulated the ceiling or not from the camera angle...if not...I would HIGHLY recommend it...i significant percentage of heat is transferred through the ceiling.

Hey Earl,

Way To Go~! That sounds like great News~!

So did you put insulation in under the OSB that you put up?

And man oh man that looks like it would have been a pain to put up that OSB behind that GIANT Lathe.

Again Congratulations.

I couldn't believe how much cooler my shop was after putting in an insulated ceiling! Looking forward to cooler weather. Think I'm ready to try and have a little heat in there this winter. :icon_thum

Jeff is dead on target about the heat loss/gain through the ceiling. And, if you do it, use the "whitest, litest" material you can find. You'll be amazed how much more usable light you will have.:wsmile:

Yep, nice. I too had to put AC in my shop this summer and it sure makes it a lot easier on an ole man.

Looks good. I hope to have a shop this fall as working in the garage and listening to my wife complain about not getting her car in, is getting old.

Good Job

There is no ceiling, I had to put insulation on the bottom side of the roof, and of course had to use closed cell foam, not too thick but better then nothing, maybe next year I can add another layer.

Earl, you will really enjoy working in your shop now. I remember running my shop A/C on two afternoons last year. This year it has been on since early June. I haven't opened the doors/windows at all this summer. Once I realized how nice 78 degrees is, I refuse to turn off the A/C.

That's great, Earl. It REALLY makes a difference -- in comfort, in utility bills and in having a place to condition your wood properly.

My small shop is on posts (open crawl space) and that's the next place I want to insulate. Fortunately, that's not as big a performance deal as the ceiling, but it sure is going to be a pain to do. And will be after the critters and snakes have gone away for the season!

Thanks but I dont think 2 of us could move an 800 lb lathe, and even if we could thats the only place in the shop where there is cement cap blocks under the floor joists to hold it:gar-Bi
