this is presisely the reason I dont use facebook, myspace or any of the "hey here i am" sites. we use panda and have not seen a virus attack in years. it is kinda pricey but it works. norton and mcaffee didn't cut it for us.YMMV. as someone already said your best bet is a complete reinstall. wipe it and start over. save what you can but dont put it back in until it has been scoured for bits and pieces of the virus. good luck!:icon_thum

Exactly Fred. I don't "myspace", "facebook", "IM", or "tweet on twitter", or is it twit on tweeter? Cell "phones" are called phones because they are supposed to be used for talking, NOT incessantly banging on the numbers to type out some sort of gibberish code that the Navajo Code Talkers would squint at. I don't open emails OR attachments from anyone that I don't recall first sending an email to for them to respond to. I do miss my Linux machine. LOML is unsure about being able to communicate reliably with her schooling and chat groups there because the :kamahlituschool "requires" you to use IE and Windows. You know why it's called Windows? "Cuz anybody wanting to can see right through it. I've had Windows to get hosed so many times it ain't funny. Even had this one get it last year but I think I've finally gotten her to see the light about NOT downloading ANYTHING just because it pops up and says you need to.

Also, all of you folks out there looking for jobs online........be extremely wary of incoming emails about job offers with some link for you to click to get further details or about additional info needed on your application/resume' you posted.

I work on a computer every day. I hate computers. They get dusty. They occupy everyone's time whether they are working or not. They have made us too dependant on them and they are becoming the downfall of our society!! They are making us crazy and lazy and someday they will take over just like in the movies!!. The only good thing about them is you can find good used tools and good fishing spots on them:rotflm:
But, but, but.............computers were supposed to enhance our lives, simplify everything for us, make things easier and thereby less time consuming; freeing us "humans" up for more important tasks like spending time with family, gardening, recreating/procreating, (same thing in my book), and all those other menial things we "humans" find ourselves concerned with. Oh, AND they were supposed to have done away with the need for using so much paper. Ever noticed how paper use has INCREASED with the increase in use of computer maintained files????????

As a general comment about fixing computer problems and especially windows based ones, is the need for information and feedback. All the information is so general, it is not clear what Phillip has tried and what happened:dontknow:. That's why I haven't responded.

So to anyone who wishes computer help, please be prepared to give a lot of detail and then be prepared to give detailed feedback, etc.

So Phillip, I just sent you a PM. Let's see if you and I can work this one on the phone.:thumbs_up:gar-Bi

I think this is your perfect solution Phillip, I am sure that Steve will attack this problem using his vast computer knowledge with the kind of intensity that is quite visible in his avatar picture:wsmile:

the wife has successfully removed this one on several systems. log on in safe mode as admin. then you can get rid of it. on a few machines she had to log on SM 2 times to get it done. I cant tell you all the things you need to delete but if steve can't help I'm sure she would try. but then if Steve cant do it you are in deep doo doo!:rotflm: this particular malware is a PITA to get rid of.

The worst malware/adware trojans I ever had were successfully removed using VundoFix and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I also run XoftSpySE twice a week and run the latest version of Avast 24/7.
