Grabbed this piece of wood that I've had for a while in a pile I thought was all Mahogany but when I cut it it doesn't look like the rest of the mahogany I have. Any ideas on what it is?

The first photo made me think Purpleheart but the last looks like Sapele. Is there some purple tint to the fresh cut or is it a photographic artifact. I must say this may be the first Wood ID post that has good photos. Well done.

Doubt this is sapele. The grain is wrong and sapele usually does not splinter like shown in the endgrain pics. This is most probably purpleheart which is very splintery.

Based on end and face grain, looks like Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry) to me. If so, it will be dense/heavy and will dull your tools quickly. Very durable and a great outdoor wood, but I’ve found it hard on tools.

My first impression was also purple heart, based on the end grain and the coloring (purple heart will change to brown when first cut). However, the cathedral grain made me doubt it.
