Made a trip to East Wake Hardwoods today and picked up a huge Sapele board which equated to 24.5 bf in one board. :notworthy: 14' L x 21" W x 1 1/8" thick. It's a shame I couldn't afford to get it's mate. :wmad: The real shame is I am going to make table leafs and aprons out of it. Oh well, the client gets what the client wants. No, they leafs are not going to be that wide but I really didn't want to glue boards up so Roger came up with this nice stuff. Now all I have to do is bust it up and start making some dust. I didn't take any pics because the camera was at home. I will take a couple just to show how awsome they really are (yea, had to cut it in half just to transport it back to the shop).

Mike,

I know the feeling you had when you loaded that baby up... The picture here is a 22" wide (37.9 BF) slab of 8/4 Bubinga on top of a smaller piece of 8/4 and some White Oak I bought a year ago at Wall Lumber for a client's project... Tape is extended to 25" to give a sense of scale. Sweet feeling, indeed.

I had no idea what Sabele was so I looked it up. Now that I know I thought I'd post what I found out incase there were others wondering the same thing.

"The commercially important wood is reminiscent of mahogany, with a distinctive figure, typically applied where figure is important. It is sought after as flooring for its durability and beautiful graining. Among its more exotic uses is that in guitar manufacturing, in the top, back and sides of acoustic guitar bodies as well as the tops of electric guitar bodies, for example by well known guitar manufacturers such as Ibanez (Japan/USA), Taylor (USA), Martin (USA), Larrivée (Canada) and Esteve (Spain)."
